Elizabeth tells the Markham's that she is doing editorials for the Circle. She is also in charge of several departments and enjoying her work. She asks what is "considered the most beautiful thing in old age", she wants Markham's opinion. She wants something from the Markham's to publish in the Circle. She will send them a copy of it. Dr. Fite has bewen ill.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). He became a well-known reader of his own poems and lecturer of idealistic views, but his creative output for remainder of life ...
